The Registrars Committee of the American Association of Museums (RC-AAM) is the largest of 13 Professional Network Committees (formerly the Standing Professional Committees) of the American Association of Museums (AAM).  The RC-AAM is a membership group of those responsible for, or interested in, the management of cultural heritage collections and exhibitions.  RC-AAM has a domestic and international  membership of approximately 950 members; a listserv with over 2000 members; and a very active website.  The organization, begun by just a handful of registrars at an AAM Annual Meeting, was formally established in 1976.

Within the AAM structure there are six regional associations; each region has a Registrars Committee that works under the RC-AAM umbrella.

• Mid-Atlantic Association of Museums (MAAM) -Delaware, District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania
• Association of Midwest Museums (AMM) – Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri , Ohio, Wisconsin
• Mountain-Plains Museums Association (MPMA) – Colorado, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas, Wyoming
• New England Museum Association (NEMA) – Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Vermont
• Southeastern Museum Conference (SEMC) – Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia
• Western Museums Association (WMA) – Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington

RC-AAM disseminates information relevant to the responsibilities of museum registrars and collections managers in the United States.  We network with registrars and collections managers across the nation.  We seek to maintain our existing membership and to gain new members.

The RC-AAM website strives to provide accurate, up-to-date information pertinent to the job responsibilities of registrars and collections managers.  This material includes but is  not limited to:  the dissemination of information and discussion of best-practices; current legal information as related to the profession;  information about conferences and workshops around the world. It is also a vehicle for networking with other museum registrars, other museum professionals, and those who provide services critical to the registration/collections management function such as preparators, shippers, insurance providers, and conservators.
